At the second World War, during an air raid in the afternoon, a 200kg bomb was dropped by a unit of the Luftwaffe, piercing the dome and falling from more than 300 faithful waiting for the first evening Mass, however, the bomb did not explode . A model that reproduces is now on display in the Rotunda, under a written in Maltese which reads: "The Miracle of the Bomb, April 9, 1942" (the latter is the exact date of the event). A version of the story says that after the opening of the bomb, it was established that it was filled with sand instead of explosive and carried a note that carried the "greetings from Pilsen" by workers of the Skoda factory in Czechoslovakia occupied by the Nazis, who had sabotaged the production |
